Organizational Overview:
The Middle Musquodoboit Agricultural Society (MMAS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting agriculture and food in the Musquodoboit Valley. The main activities for MMAS are to maintain and enhance the exhibition grounds in Middle Musquodoboit and to operate the Halifax County Exhibition in Middle Musquodoboit.

Job Title: Halifax County Exhibition Assistant Coordinator #1
Location: Middle Musquodoboit, NS
Employment Terms: This position is available for 8 weeks from July 2 to August 26, 2026. Compensation: $18.00/hr.
Deadline: June 14, 2026
Successful candidates are required to work some weekends.
This successful candidate is responsible for helping to coordinate the Light and Draft Horse Shows. This includes light horse and draft horse registrations, confirmation of entry fees and insurance papers.
Other duties include yet not limited to:
- Report to the Exhibition Manager and attend all regular staff meetings.
- Have clear confident communication skills for Front Counter interactions with exhibitors.
- Organize volunteers to support the light horse and draft horse shows.
- Coordinate with Light Horse and Draft Horse Superintendent for stall assignments.
- Respond to email, text and phone messages.
- Use social media to promote the Light Horse and Draft Horse shows.
- Communicate with the Awards Coordinator that all trophies, ribbons and awards required for each show are ready.
- Update the database of all competitors.
- Enter light horse exhibitor information into class sheets. Assign back numbers for Light Horse and wagon numbers for Draft Horse. Print off judge’s sheets and announcer sheets. Organize the classes for the daily schedule.
- Create Exhibitor packages for Light Horse and Draft Horse Exhibitors.
- Coordinate with Announcers booth, Ring Stewards, Ring Crew and Awards Coordinator for running of Show Rings1 & 2.
- Help to coordinate Show Rings schedules for Official Program.
- Help find activities for spaces in the Show Ring Program.
- Create colorful informative posters of the different breeds of horses attending the Halifax County Exhibition to be posted in the Horse Barn and on the grounds.
- Attend events prior to the exhibition week in promotion of the exhibition.
- Help with other MMAS summer events.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organizational and time management skills including attention to detail.
- Team-oriented but able to work independently.
- Equine knowledge would be considered an asset for this position.
- Knowledge of common software programs (e.g. Microsoft Office) and comfortable learning new ones
- Knowledge of Nova Scotia agriculture.
- Must have valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Eligibility: This position is partially funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To qualify under this program, you must be:
- between the ages of 15 and 30, inclusive, at the start of employment;
- a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to coordinate the Dairy Show, Beef Show and Poultry Show. This
includes Livestock registrations, confirming entry numbers and fees. Help to coordinate Vendor Rental spaces. Create
on-site signage and promotional material. Other duties include and not limited to:
- Report to Exhibition Manager, attending regular staff meetings.
- Have clear confident communication skills for Front Counter interactions with exhibitors.
- Help coordinate show programs for Dairy Show and Beef Show.
- Communicate with and help the superintendents of dairy and beef cattle shows to confirm entries, insurance papers, fees, stall placement cards, create exhibitor packages.
- Use social media to promote the cattle shows.
- Work with the Awards Coordinator to ensure all ribbons, awards, banners and trophies are ready for shows.
- Research different dairy and beef breeds to create colorful and informative posters to be posted throughout the barns.
- Respond to email, text and phone messages in a timely manner
- Communicate and work with Poultry Superintendent.
- Coordinate entry tags, entry forms, ribbons and awards for Poultry Show.
- Help to create an informative and colorful display for Poultry Barn
- Help coordinate vendor space rentals and communicate logistical information and expectations with all vendors. Create Vendor packages.
- Respond to email, text and phone messages in a timely and professional manner.
- Participate in off-site promotional events.
- Help coordinate RV Parking Area, input information from forms onto spreadsheet.
- Help prepare the site for upcoming exhibition and other MMAS events.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will help coordinate Home Crafts/Handicrafts, Flower and Vegetable Competitions at the Halifax County Exhibition. Schedule and setup on site demonstrations. Work with Managers for promotion and set up of the Exhibition and other MMAS events on the grounds Duties include:
- Report to Exhibition Manager, attending regular staff meetings
- Prior to the Exhibition, ensure exhibit tags are ordered, prizelists and entry forms are printed.
- Week prior to exhibition, competition areas to be cleaned, organized and set up.
- Entry boxes need to be created to cover all exhibitor information and all the categories that are available for entry. Tables will be set up according to the needs of each judge.
- Volunteers are invited to assist in the accepting of entries, working with the judges and displaying after the judging process. The volunteers will organize the submissions according to the prize booklet.
- A volunteer schedule will be created for the duration of the exhibition (4 days)
- The coordinator will arrange for a minimum of 6 judges for each of the disciplines.
- A record of the results will be verified and submitted to the financial officer for payment to the exhibitors
- Ribbons to be counted and organized for each category along with special awards.
- Gather up special prizes as listed in the Prizelists. Gift cards or Gifts.
- All arrangements for Monday and Tuesday will be coordinated in an efficient and logical manner with the aid of volunteers

- Help create on-site promotions and displays.
- Create and promote Give -Away Basket for the Exhibition.
- Contact and schedule demonstrations for the Multi-Purpose Building and Demonstration Tent during the exhibition. Write up a schedule and descriptions of demonstrations for the Official Program and Announcers
Booth.
- Greet Demonstrators each day and assist with setup.
- Participate in off-site promotional events ie Natal day parade, Farmer’s Markets
- Help with Official Program and social media promotions.
- Help coordinate Official Opening.
- Organize and implement special ring /children’s events ie Hobby Horse Obstacle Course
