Organizational Overview:
The Middle Musquodoboit Agricultural Society (MMAS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting agriculture and agripreneurship in the Musquodoboit Valley. The main activities for MMAS are to maintain and enhance the exhibition grounds in Middle Musquodoboit and to operate the Halifax County Exhibition in Middle Musquodoboit.

Job Title: Event and Visitor Experience Specialist
Location: Middle Musquodoboit, NS
Employment Terms: One position is available with hours spread between June 25 to August 25, 2025. Compensation: $16 per hour. Successful candidates are required to work some weekends and evenings.
Duties and Responsbilities:
Assist in organizing and hosting the 2025 Halifax County Exhibition. Tasks will include, but will not be limited to:
Promotion
- Help to coordinate the Exhibition’s participation in the Natal Day parade.
- Help distribute posters and passes.
- Create on-site signage for daily highlights/activities.
Administration
- Answer phone calls and emails, and take messages for the Exhibition Managers as needed.
- Fill one shift per day as Front Desk Clerk during the Exhibition. Others hours will be spent on other tasks.
- Assist with follow up phone calls and emails to Sponsors, Volunteers and Exhibitors.
Program Planning
- Help to organize and facilitate children’s events/contests during the Exhibition.
- Organize Gift Basket of Musquodoboit Valley Products for door prize in the Home and Hand Craft area.
- Help organize livestock entries and coordinated exhibitor packages as requested.
- Print entry forms and waivers for all events & livestock.
- Help create and display informational signage on the grounds.
- Assist with Parade planning and marshalling.
- Coordinate the ice cream booth (with assistance from Managers): clean the booth, make sure all equipment working, coordinate volunteer shifts, order and receive the ice cream, train all new volunteer shifts, check in with all volunteers shifts, and clean booth once Exhibition is complete.
- Help set up for the Memorial Awards Tea and the Official Opening as needed.
Buildings and Grounds Preparation and Clean Up
- Help to clean and set up the Harrison House building for the Exhibition.
- Distribute/hang fire extinguishers around the grounds (a map will be provided).
- Clean the vendor spaces prior to vendors arriving (e.g., sweep, vaccum, scrub).
- Clean and set up the Poultry Barn.
- General grounds cleaning and maintenance before, during, and after the Exhibition.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Organizational and time management skills including attention to detail
- Team-oriented but able to work independently
- Knowledge of common software programs (e.g. Microsoft Office) and comfortable learning new ones
- Thorough and hard-working, capable of moderate physical labour.
- Creative and comfortable with social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Youtube, Facebook)
- A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is a bonus.
Eligibility:
This position is partially funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To qualify under this program, you must be:
- between the ages of 15 and 30, inclusive, at the start of employment;
- a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
- legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible under this program.
