The Family Exhibition for Over 120 Years

A Brief History of the Halifax County Exhibition

For over 120 years now this exhibition has been owned and operated by The Middle Musquodoboit Agricultural Society, a non-profit organization that has roots tracing back to 1819, they have been hosting the exhibition in the village of Middle Musquodoboit since 1886, making this particular fair one of the oldest and last of the old fashioned ‘open air’ agricultural fairs.

Years ago, people came from all over the province, to see people they haven’t seen for some time, learn about new products and services, enter a competition or two and possibly win that treasured 1st place prize, something that still happens today.

Today this exhibition is known across the province as a ‘family exhibition’. It is a traditional venue for local and area farmers to showcase their livestock and agricultural products. There are 4 - H displays & demonstrations, oxen, horse and truck pulls, horse and dairy shows, midway rides and entertainment. There are also craft and flower displays, including the largest dahlia show in eastern Canada, as well as the largest poultry show in the province and many other exciting competitions and exhibits.

The year 2007's theme "Communities Without Borders" was a reflection of past years of this exhibition. For over 120 years the communities of Halifax County have enjoyed the events and entertainment of this exhibition. We invite you and your family to come and enjoy this fair for many years to come.
